How do I start seeing a therapist?
The first step is to set up an initial consultation and/or an intake session. Once you have completed this step and have completed the required forms, you will be assigned a therapist who will develop a treatment plan with you.
I signed up—how long will it take to be matched with a therapist?
We try to assign you a therapist as soon as possible, usually within a couple of weeks. As with all human relationships, it can take a few sessions to build rapport and a comfort level with your assigned therapist.
How long is the intake process?
Typically one session can last 50-70 minutes.
What can I expect during my first session?
In the beginning a therapist can ask a lot of questions to get to know you and your situation. Please always feel free to ask your own questions!
How often will I attend therapy?
Typically sessions will be weekly. In some instances, twice-a-week sessions can be justified. Once you and your therapist feel like you are ready, frequency can lessen to once every other week or once a month. Psychotherapy doesn't have to last indefinitely, but it also doesn't have to have a time limit either.
How long is a session?
Typically 45-60 minutes, depending on availability and therapist.
What is the cost per session?
This can vary because different insurances will pay the practice different rates. Typically we will charge $125-$150 a session.
When are copays charged?
Typically at the end of the business day if we have your copayment method on file and if we have your account set up for autopay. If there is a problem with the card, the autopay feature is disabled, and someone from the practice will reach out to you.
What are your copays like?
This will vary by insurance panel. Typically a copay can be anywhere between $15 and $50. If copays are a financial hardship, you may speak with your therapist or someone from the administration team to discuss further.
What insurance plans do you accept?
Currently we accept 1199SEIU, Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, EmblemHealth, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, HealthFirst, Medicaid, Medicare, UnitedHealthcare UHC | UBH, and WellCare. We are currently in the process of joining several other insurance panels to accommodate more clients.
If my insurance expires, what can I do?
Inform your therapist and the practice immediately, as you will start incurring an out-of-pocket balance that you will be responsible for paying. We will try to work with you as much as possible while you work out your insurance situation and/or arrange an out-of-pocket fee that will fit your budget.
Am I allowed to switch to another therapist?
Building therapeutic rapport is like any human relationship: sometimes you vibe, sometimes you don't. We ask that you allow for at least.
Can I request to work with a specific provider?
You may, however, availability is not guaranteed.
If there’s a waitlist, why should I sign up?
We try not to keep a wait list because everyone deserves to be seen in a relatively short period of time. However, if you are set on working with a specific provider or on a specific day/time, then we can put you on a waitlist for that therapist. We can not guarantee when the therapist or the day/time slot will become available.
I’m on the waitlist, but I need care now. What can I do?
If it is an emergency, please go to your nearest emergency room and/or call 988 for immediate help. If you no longer want to be on the waitlist, we recommend you be assigned to the next available therapist to start receiving the care you need.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, 100%. We will only need to break confidentiality if your safety or someone else's safety is in question.
What other languages do you offer?
Spanish, Haitian Creole, Twi, Mandarin
What is your cancellation policy?
You must provide at least 24 hours advanced notice, or else a $50 late cancellation/no-show fee will be charged. This is standard for a private practice. Keep in mind that most practices will charge for the full session.
What issues do you treat?
Our team has experience with a wide variety of issues and concerns, including but not limited to Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Challenges, Grief/Bereavement, Life-Stage Issues from Childhood through Senior ages.
