I was born and raised in Washington Heights into a 1st generation Dominican immigrant family. Those earliest experiences had a profound impact both on myself and the formation of my basic belief that we can, each of us and collectively, become the best versions of ourselves given the proper opportunity and support.
This basic philosophy has defined my 34 year career as a social worker during which time I have had the opportunity to serve in many capacities with diverse inner-city populations including: a youth counselor; an individual, group and family psychotherapist; a substance abuse counselor; a clinical supervisor to undergraduate and graduate level interns; a grant writer for city, state and federally funded programs; a youth program developer and director; a community coalition coordinator and community organizer; a crafter and advisor to social policy; a national community coalition trainer; a reiki master and psychospiritual therapist; a school social worker; and now the Founder and CEO of a growing Psychotherapy Practice.
Over the course of my career, I have made it a priority to find creative ways of addressing unmet needs of vulnerable and underserved populations. Today the need for psychotherapeutic services has never been higher. This is especially true within our vulnerable and underserved communities. There has also been a dearth of opportunities for educated and trained professionals to address these needs in a comprehensive way. I started Ortiz Psychotherapy as a first and important step in leveraging my expertise towards creating compassionate and culturally responsive care while creating opportunities for the next generation of psychotherapists to thrive.
We are all on this “human journey”, and, as we all “level up” together, we will create a ripple effect that can reach far beyond the therapy room.
Ortiz Psychotherapy. We are Psychotherapy for the Community by the Community.
